The Temple Mount and the Tolerance of Idol Worshippers

The temple mount in Jerusalem has been in the news of late. Temple_Mount_Aerial_viewDevout Jewish believers have been demanding the right to pray on the temple mount in recent weeks.

Rabbi Yehudah Glick is a central figure in the campaign make the temple mount a place of prayer for all people. He was shot four times by a Palestinian gunman outside the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in central Jerusalem on the night of October 29.

Israel has had control of the temple mount since it was liberated in the six days war of 1967.As the Israelis rapidly took the Old City, an Israeli flag was hoisted atop the Dome of the Rock.

At the moment of takeover, the army’s chief rabbi urged General Narkiss to blow up the Dome. The General flatly rejected the idea. When Defense Minister Moshe Dayan arrived, he ordered the Israeli flag removed from the Dome. A week later, Dayan met with Muslim leaders to turn over the “administrative affairs” of the Mount to the Islamic Waqf Authority, which had administered it for centuries. Israel would control “security.”

The temple mount has been run this way ever since. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly pledged in recent days to preserve the status quo on the Temple Mount.

But was is the “status quo”?

By allowing Islam to have operational and “religious” control of the temple mount, Israel is protecting and even promoting idol worship. Something the Lord takes more than a little seriously.

And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men, with their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping the sun toward the east. Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations that they commit here, that they should fill the land with violence and provoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their nose. Ezekiel 8:16-17

Jews and Christians do not recognize the idolatry in Islam, mostly because Muslims will flatly deny it and then threaten to burn and destroy everything in their path. When Muslims face Mecca (which is east of Jerusalem) and bow to the false god of Islam (who has roots as both a sun god and a god of war) they are bowing to a meteorite (an idol made of stone set in silver).

What the leadership of Israel has done and continues to do is to allow idol worship to continue on its most holy mountain. The mountain were Jews believe that Abraham bound Isaac and where two temples stood including the holy of holies.

For the sake of a false peace Israel will not even allow a devout Jew to move his lips in prayer on the site, but a Muslim can defile the site by calling upon the name of a false god.

I know my choice of words are harsh on this, but the God of the Bible is unwilling to share His glory or the credit for saving us with manmade idols and the religions/ governments that spring from them.

Consider the first command of God from the ten commandments:

And God spoke all these words, saying,

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before me. -Exodus 20:1-3

Any questions? Just to be clear read a little further.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:4-6

The Lord is looking for those who will be passionate in their love for Him. Those who will not tolerate what is false just to get along. Make no mistake. Muslims are not interested in co-existing with other religions.

While we should not take violent action to make converts, we should not wavier from our belief that the God we serve is the true God and all others are created by Satan and man.
