Hope Christian School is being drawn into the same sex rights battle. The school, which does receive some public funding, is under fire for denying the application of a potential 3 year old student because he has two fathers. The rejection letter states in part “Same gender couples are inconsistent with scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings,” and “Home life doesn’t reflect the school’s belief of what a biblical family lifestyle is.”
The bible is clear on the standard we should hold in teaching children and on same sex relationships. Problems arise, however, when a private religious institution accepts government money. That money always has strings attached and can greatly limit the freedom of the one taking it. Hope Christian must continue to stand for what is right but that may require this school to drop its public funding. We can’t have our cake and eat it too. If we want government out, it must be out.
