APD Foothills Area Commander Cliff Saylor is outraged that four city councilors have chosen to stand with the criminal element of Albuquerque rather than our police force. He is justified in his anger and disappointment. APD should always fully investigate an officer involved shooting and take any corrective action needed. A citizen’s death is never desired by the men and women sworn to protect us. We should understand, however, that law enforcement is authorized to use deadly force when it is needed.
The bible tells us in the book of Romans, that the government does not bear the sword in vain. When we encourage and protect evil behavior rather than stand with an officer cleared of wrong doing, we ourselves commit evil. APD needs to know that we stand with them in the battle against drugs, gangs and domestic violence. The city council should be ashamed of itself and do better.
