Astorga, Sheehan and the Death Penalty for Life

Convicted cop killer Michael Astorga is now undergoing the sentencing phase of his trial and already the games have begun. Astorga’s attorney, Gary Mitchell, has already claimed that the jury might be tainted with members that favor the death penalty and he plans to call witnesses like Archbishop Michael Sheehan, who has gone on record saying the death penalty is wrong.

Maybe the Archbishop missed the command of God that requires the life of a man who kills another man. The death penalty is not about something so petty as vengeance or even retribution. The Lord holds life in high esteem. He sees not only the life that is lost, but hears the cry of the lost generations. This is not about some goulash desire to see Michael Astorga die, but to show the value of Deputy McGrain’s life.
