Drug use and abuse has long been a problem for humanity, but in the last week New Mexico has seen several stories of horrendous results of child abuse and even death as a result of very powerful drugs. The use of such drugs are forbidden in Scripture, but there is little to no talk in Christian circles about God’s point of view on the subject.
In the bible, drug use is associated with witchcraft and sorcery. Witchcraft and sorcery are simply man’s attempt to find comfort and power apart from the Lord. Whether we long to end the pain of our sinful deeds or hope to find the strength to overcome the barriers of life, when we turn to anything but God, we open our lives to the destruction waiting that choice. New laws and regulations will not stop the drug problem, because it is a spiritual battle.
