Mass Murder and Insanity

Norwegian mass murderer, Anders Behring Breivik, has been declared insane by psychiatrists. Mr. Breivik this summer, planted a bomb near government offices and then went on a shooting spree that took 77 lives and injured 151 people. The psychiatrists diagnosed the killer with paranoid schizophrenia, saying that Breivik was in psychotic state during the murders. This could lead to a plea of not guilty by reason of mental condition.

The bible tells us in the book of Romans that as we deny God our thoughts become futile and our hearts become dark. Of course, a person who kills 77 people is insane. What else are they? But that does not absolve the government of its role to protect the people. If a mass murderer is not eligible for the death penalty, what hope is there for justice? If a man spills another man’s blood his blood will be required. Are the governments of the world also turned over to a reprobate mind?
