Freedom of speech is a basic American freedom most of its citizens take for granted and assume will always be there, but they must be watchful. From the so called “fairness doctrine” to the president’s rapid response to bad press department and even a recent petition to shut down certain conservative news sources. It is important that Americans be ever watchful for the seeds of tyranny trying to eliminate freedom of speech and the press.
These freedoms are given by God, as He is the true source of liberty. It may seem easier to eliminate the opposing viewpoint rather than to defend our own, but the result is enslavement and oppression. The Lord allows choice into the world so that the debate over choosing Him may continue. Removing choice and the freedom to argue about it would be contrary to the very purpose of creation. Free speech leads to free choice, something that not everyone is in favor of.
